Me: Hey Grandma, it's me, Jackie.
G'ma: Well, hey there Dah-lin' (said in thick Southern accent)
Me: Whatcha up to?
G'ma: Oh, as much as an old lady like me can be up to...not much. What about you?
Me: Just got home from work. I wanted to call and thank you for the set of silver you sent with Mom and Dad. I love it. It's something I'll treasure.
G'ma: Oh, I'm so glad you like it.
Me: How long have you had it.
G'ma: Now let's see. I got that set right after me and your Papaw got married. I always meant to keep adding to it. A serving spoon here and there, you know. But your daddy came along and then Brenda. And we just didn't have the money back then.
Me: KIDS. They mess everything up.
G'ma: laughter...(pause)...I miss your Papaw so much.
Me: I know you do. I do, too. (long pause) Grandma, did you ever think of getting remarried.
G'ma: No. Never. I knew I'd never find anybody I'd love as much as Tennyson. Besides, what would I do now with an old man?
Me: Good point. Well, I'll keep my eyes peeled for you anyway for any cute old men around here.
G'ma: And I'll be looking for a man for you, too.
Me: Deal.
